Rectifiers for DC brakes

Brake rectifiers convert alternating current voltage in direct current voltage to power the brake coil.

Full wave rectifiers

The full-wave rectifier is composed of diodes that filter the unwanted voltage peaks and allow rapid stoppage of the current. This type of rectifier offers fluid DC power supply: the two halves of the sine wave equate to approx. 90% of the input voltage capacity.

Half wave rectifiers

The half-wave rectifier allows passage only of the positive part of the alternating current sine wave and reduces the voltage between the waves. This allows a single polarity voltage to reach the brake. A half-wave rectifier allows passage of 45% of the input voltage.

Rapid power supply units

Rapid acting rectifiers allow faster brake activation and release of the motor. These rapid activation devices allow passage of a sudden voltage shock (~ 90% of the input power supply) which, after a few milliseconds, switches to allow approx. 45% of the input voltage.
